Exhibition Zones
The exhibition area has been divided into a number of zones, each representing a specific challenge for the industry.
Companies and organisations exhibiting in these zones will be showcasing their products and services and how they are addressing these challenges.
Climate Change and Energy – presents one of the greatest environmental challenges facing the world today. Rising global temperatures will bring changes in weather patterns, rising sea levels and increased frequency and intensity of extreme weather. The associated energy crisis and its effects are already being felt in the UK and internationally.
Design – Changing the way we design, build and operate buildings to improve their environmental performance is probably one of the greatest challenges facing building design and the need to comply with new regulations and legislation, and clients demand for higher standards and long-term benefits from their building.
Refurbishment –Existing buildings account for up to 45% of the UK’s carbon emissions, and 87% of these buildings will still be in use in 2050. The need to improve the energy and environmental performance and their living standards, is requiring a new way of thinking, with new products and services which offer strategies to lessen the impact these buildings.
Living & Wellbeing – The UK’s ageing population poses one of our greatest built environment challenges. There will be 3.1 million more people over 65 between now and 2025 and an increase of 38% between now and 2017 of over-85s. A new age of health care that support individuals in managing their conditions more independently through health clinics and the home represents the future.
Intelligent & Smart – The design, integration and installation of intelligent systems posses a significant challenge for industry professionals, and how they can facilitate better environmental performance by enabling buildings and systems to operate at their optimum levels.
The Interactive Zone - The Modern Built Environment KTN is running an Interactive Zone, which will give visitors the opportunity to view, touch, test and interact with some of the next generation of technologies that can be applied to the built environment. Innovations on display will include:
- A Sustainable Sitka Spruce Housing System: Ty Unnos - "A House in one night" winner of the CIOB Architecture and Surveying Innovation Award 2009.
- A dimmable glass technology from Smart Glass International.
- An electro-conductive concrete and the EcoBio remediation system, supported by BRE Ventures.
- A range of NanoTechnology based solutions supported by the NanoTechnology KTN including fire retardent coatings from Chamelion, lotus-effect self-cleaning paint from Sto and active self-cleaning glass from Pilkington.
- The EnergyFlo Cell from EBP which is designed to facilitate provision generous volumes of clean, pre-tempered, filtered ventilation air to the building while dramatically reducing fabric heat loss.
- A Carbon Sequestration system from Carbon8 systems, which uses waste carbon dioxide to treat industrial wastes to manufacture construction materials such as light weight aggregate drainage material or general fill.
- A recycled 100% biodegradable engineering material, developed by InterfaceFlor with funding from the Technology Strategy Board.
